High all Im looking for help.

My caravan pump wont stop and after checking all the taps and fittings looking for leeks I found the culprit.

On the outside you have a drain Plug but six inches above it is I beleive a fast drain plug which you turn 90 degrees to aid the draining of the tank.

This fast drain plug seems to be constantly leeking and I cant close it as now it just turns and turns instead of locking shut.

Is this plug a replacable part and if so how do you fit it as I cant seem to get the old one out.

Alternativly can I seal it perminatly shut or does it have any other function.

Any help and advice greatfull

Cheers

John

If its a carver cascade 2 water heater, it'll be a wax safety plug. If the unit malfunctions and the flames from the burner get to much, the heat melts the wax plug and the escaping water will put the burner out.

They are a replacable part, but I've no idea how to (sorry)

Somewhat in reverse order, no, you cannot seal it off; however no need to as a new one is available.

As for it turning without locking, this is correct as it opens and shuts each quarter turn, it does not lock.

It can be that the mechanism is worn or broken and this should be obvious if you unscrew the end and inspect it. It could equally be simply muck on the seal.

Removing the body from the heater is less straight forward as the body often snaps leaving the threads firmly in the casting, this area is also the most common place for this fitting to leak when the threads crack but not break off altogether?

In general then I supply just the body as this is normally the problem, I also supply a free picture type help sheet that tells you how to do the job simply and safely.

I might add there is another reason for the valve to leak, that is the pump is over pressurising the tank and the valve is simply doing it's job.

The valve 'blows' off at 50psi which is actually far to much for post 1990 Cascade heaters. However should you have replaced yours, 50psi is the common factory preset for many on-board pumps, if though you use a submersible pump this won't be the problem
