Cascade water heater

Thanks to responses from all repaired the leak. Get hot water from the gas side but not from the electric. Indicator light is lit. Has any one any ideas.

Bob, its going to be one of 2 things.

First, it may be the thermal cut out has operated, and needs to be re set.there is a reset button in the center of the electrical connection on the rear of the heater, under a cover flap, coloured red, try pressing it and see if the water heats up.

Second, it is the element has gone, and needs replacing.

Following on, elements do break down but you can test this by measuring the resistance across the element pins, this should be commonly 84 ohms for the more common 630w element or 64 ohms for the later 850w version. No reading and the elements kaput!

If this readings is good, then either of the thermostats may be faulty, again you can test these with a multimeter and you should get the same reading as touching the two meter probes together, ie, no resistance.

A few elements used a 'one shot' thermal fuse and a few are still about, in this case you will find one stat and two wires leading down a hole. Same applies though, these two wires should have a circuit between them the same as the thermostat.

Don't forget, disconnect the van from the mains while testing the circuits.
