Cats on van

Hi there,Has anybody got any ideas how to keep cats off the van. They are climbing up the front onto the roof and jumping across to the house roof. [ we have an overhang on the front] and going into next doors bedroom window. They leave muddy foot prints up the front and on the roof. Cheers.

a bucket of water, not to wash the footprints off but to throw at the cat.

You could try some cat repellent granules available from most good garden centres. Sprinkle them around the van.

Apply a thick coating of butter/marg or lard to the front slope of the van.

. The trouble with the bucket of water/hosepipe is that cats learn quite quickly that it doesn't throw itself and so it doesn't work when you are not about. Well worth a few goes though. I think the cat repellent spray is probably your best bet.

DD you have not thought this through.

I have observed next-door's-ginger-tom vs our-collie-cross. There is only one winner every time and it isn't the collie. In Fred's scenario only one thing would happen. The cat would stroll calmly towards the van until the dog was almost on it, then the cat would leap gracefully onto the van roof and sneer while the dog attempted unsuccessfully to scrabble up the once shiny front of the van. Result: victorious cat, demoralised dog, muddy cat prints on roof, gouges and dog drool on the front panel, demented owner.
