caver water heater

hi i have a caraver mark2 water heater it wasn,t working when i brought trhe caravan i put a new switch on it turned swith on and it blue a fuse what else can i do see if i can get it working the green light does come on for a second untill the fuse blows hope someone can help me many thanks frank

First it would depend on which fuses is blowing, negative or positive, Assuming it is the positive then the most likely cause is a sticking gas solenoid valve and you can cure this by bridging the fuse with something to allow more current though BUT most important only for a brief moment at a time. Once should do it twice maybe but if not then the problem is something else and continued efforts will only cause more harm.

If it's the negative fuse then it is probably not the heaters fault but a bad earth elsewhere using the heaters circuit as a path rather than it's own. Easy way to check is to disconnect the wires at the switch from the caravans electrical circuit and hook up a battery direct.

Frank, you do not say whether you are trying to operate the water heater on gas or the 240v electric.

If it is blowing fuses when trying to use the 240 volt side, then it is most probably the heating element which has gone, and is causing a short circuit, and you will need to get a new heater element from your dealer.

It is a pretty quick job to change the elements, takes about 15 minutes. If you need any more info, please ask, and I will tell you how I was told to do it by Truma.
