we stayed CC site at Ogafau Pumsaint , and a pitch there had a traffic cone on it for 2 days , until one of the wardens friends came in , i did send an email to the CC about it , allthough its in the sites hand book , they said it belongs to the National trust , and they said they would forward my complaint on , i said its not a complaint just an enquiry to see if i can reserve a pitch in future , heard nothing sinc

Joby - yes it is who you know.

Officially that pitch will have been resting as it can't officially be reserved.

Wardens, now retired, used to "reserve" one of the un-publicised electric hook-ups for us at CC The Howard, Rosedale - unnecessary now as all the pitches have been recently upgraded to EHU.

Shame on you - hope you're not in the "friendly club"!

You have hit the nail on the head as to speak EssexEddie. The 12 pm rule is so people departing can all be gone before people arrive.

If people have to arrive early for whatever reason / excuse etc whats wrong with pulling into a layby, dropping the legs and having a good ole English cuppa?

It's quite simple,Stephen; if they did that they may not get the best pitch. That would completely destroy any hope of having a nice time because all the other pitches will be cr*p.

And why shouldn't they have the best pitch. After all, they deserve it more than anyone else.

And why should they wait. They didn't join this club or that club to have to wait!

Who does this warden chappie think he is?

And while we are having to wait,we'll let the dogs out for a poop while we sit in the car.

This,Stephen is the attitude which seems to prevail with more and more people I'm afraid.

It would appear that this is an example of what our society has come to.

The rules are there for a reason, if everybody stuck to them we would have a better society. why should somebody deserve to have a better pitch than another? Just turn up, be allocated a pitch and enjoy your stay. If you cant do this try using a commercial site.

I belong to the CC and find it generally well run, however as has been said before the warden will make or break the site. 2 years ago we were booked onto a CC site in West Sussex for long easter weekend (5 nights). On arrival we were told there were no hardstandings left, no problem, grass damp but not too bad. We found a pitch opposite 3 empty h/standings, I asked the question if I could go on one, no reserved for motorhomes, okay fair comment I thought. half an hour later car/caravan pulls up and pitches on standing opposite. I queried with warden "well they're here for a week and you are here only 5 nights". I was aghast and hastened off letter to the Club is my money not as good etc etc. To be fair I received a reply saying I was right and it shouldn't have happened, the only way h/standings should be kept are for the larger/heavier motorhomes in poorer weather conditions, the warden would be informed etc. Wardens now changed and haeven't had this problem in the last 2 years.

I might be wrong Rick but I think Dave was being sarcastic about those who arrive early to get the best pitches ;O)

On cc sites that I frequent,Sundays is the only day that I have experienced problems arriving before 12 oclock, I have been let in, but some weekenders take alot of time to depart some as late as 6pm, so a lot the pitches remain full well after the 12 oclock departure time.

Hello Rick.

Take notice of the wise old aristocrat,Lord B.

I'm sorry if it went over your head but in future I suggest you read the posts thoroughly and understand them before you jump in at the deep end making accusations like that.

And as a proud owner of a 14 year old labrador I too hope we never get pitched together.

Its quite simple in my book, if we require to arrive early for any reason we will always phone the site a day or so in advance to ask the question. The only times ive been refused is when access is poor or the site is full. manners cost nothing

We went to a site in Angelsey at SBH (not a CC site but still relevent) that insisted on departure by 12 noon and strictly no arrivals before 1pm. When we arrived, it was very clear why and we were very glad we didn't get there early. The approach was little more than a single track road with passing places, suitable for cars not cars with caravans in tow, that went on for 2 1/2 miles! It never mentioned this on the website or in the brochure but lesson learned - we'll always do as we're told and arrive as specified!

The thought of the tow back out of the site actually hung over me all week, being new to this towing game. I was very glad that I could follow our friends out of the site with their large outfit, working on the theory that no one would be mean enough to make 2 lots of caravanners reverse! We were lucky and only met single vehicles - thank goodness any new arrivals had taken note of the later arrival time.

Claire & Rob, if you were leaving at the correct time and met someone arriving early I'm afraid if I was in your shoes it would be they who would be reversing back ... guaranteed :O)

Totally agree, that's why we made sure that we left on time, Lord B. We just thought that if there was a stand-off, there was safety in numbers!

The CC may be a club but how about the clients requirements, Our visits to CC sites are not that frequent but we like many other members have found "no shows" on sites as no deposit is taken. We have also seen cases of favouritism with Wardens and their friends.

What happened to the customer being King/Queen? All our requirements differ and flexibility from those using sites and those running them would go a long way to a happier caravanning experience.

We've not always been able to pack away by the site dead line and have arrived early at sites. If the site is busy I have no worries about waiting and we'll race around to get away from a busy site so as not to inconvenience others. If the site has free pitches as a paying customer one would hope to get consideration in your favour and a polite friendly reaction from site wardens surely.

has anyone been to dornafield in devon, thats an interesting site to get in and out of. its off a little lane, a b road that runs past the entrance. its not wide enough to pass other motors in places and you get all sorts of vehicles, tractors and juggernauts included. it can be quite interesting any time of day. a very nice site though. ray
