I have just received the latest edition of the CC Magazine and lo and behold there is an article which could have been written by me - a fellow caravanner has decided that when he and his wife go away in their van they are going to leave the TV and computer at home ( as he states "confined to the attic"). He reckoned that by going away and bothering with the TV and laptop they might as well stay at home. He states that the surrounding scenary is far better than staying in the van and googleing. A man after my own heart who deserves a medal for his changed views. No matter though there will be some person who will write in and disagree with his and my opinion.

I have more than sympathy for leaving the TV behind but the laptop is a different kettle of fish. I didn't like mobile phones at the beginning but as a father of three daughters you quickly realise that if it does not ring you do not have a problem.

The laptop is an extension of the mobile phone but far more powerful, I can take it and my business with me to where the sun shines, and when your self employed that's priceless

Unfortunately everyone is not young or healthy

I used to cycle a lot and did 10000 miles one year and beat the hour for 25 miles when I was 40 but now I have to care for my wife who is 70 this year and has Parkinsons so I don't feel at all guilty at watching TV nor should I

Enjoy the caravanning as you will but don't expect us all to be the same

Hi Guys

I have to disagree. After a hard days walking , sight seeing etc we love to sit down and watch the tv. My wife is an avid Aston Villa fan so we take out sat box and mobile dish everywhere.

We do not watch tv during the day but the morning weather forecasts help us plan our day. We can take it or leave it but as I see it , it doesn't interfere with anyone else, nor more importantly does it detract from our pleasures of caravanning.

Chers

Why are some people so bothered about how others use their caravans?

Provided it's legal and doesn't detract from other people's enjoyment, it's really no concern of anyone else what people take with them or do in or around the caravan.

John G

I see you in a different light, my highest mileage was 12,000 when I was out of work one year, but I only managed my first "Under the Hour" at 42.

I'm 68 now and that seems a very long time ago, I'm sure this Government has increased the Law of Gravity, or it's my eyesight that makes the hills look steeper!

Hi Vernon

I worked full time as a Primary School headteacher and the performances improved during the school holidays!Cycled to school every day as the basis

The first marriage aggro contributed to the high mileage as well!!

Simple .........it is MY life and I will do WHATEVER I choose as long as I dont hurt anyone else.

Watching TV, using my laptop etc etc hurt no-one but give me pleasure.

I dont spend all my time at home watching TV etc nor do I when in the caravan BUT I am the one who makes that decision when to watch NOT someone else.

OR

If we stop taking Tv's etc lets also stop taking children. Now THAT would REALLY make for a nice quiet camp site with no chance of vans getting damaged by the little darlings lol.

The real reason we enjoy caravanning is that we do what we want when we want!

If I want a drink, tv , computer , sleep, toilet etc then that is my business. I do wish these busy body self rightous bigots would do their own thing and leave me to my own!

I do inconvenience others and always respect the facilities etc.

Get a life and stop preaching to others how they should or should not enjoy themselves!

Cheers

Excellent post Steve. We all do what we like at home so why cannot we do it on our caravans as well without others worrying about it!!

As far as I see it its For TV/Laptop = 10 points. No TV/LAPTOP = nil points. As you say gang "Live and Let Live". I love my TV in the morning and the news, weather with my breakfast. My wife loves her soaps and as we have Sky+ we can still go out for a pizza and watch later. And what would I do if I could not watch the World Cup or Euro Cup along with fellow campers who do not have TV and seem to find their way into my van when thre is a match on. I dont mind as they usually turn up with aa botle of RED. After a quick demo next day they vow to have their own dish etc next time we meet. As for Watson (John G), stick with it mate and keep that girl comfortable.
