In the latest CC mag i see that they are having a 300 van campsite for thoes who wish to go to the Boat and Caravan Show, great !!

£27.50 per night with a 6amp hook up!!!!!!. They'r having a laugh. I would like to go but theres no way i can afford that sort of money plus what we may spend in the show.

Yeh Graham,

I totally agree with you - I think the caravan club are becoming far to greedy. Members should take a stance on this by not booking this temporary site. It might make the caravan club reconsider the price - but I very much doubt it!!

I am sure that the cost to the CC is pretty high but they also have to make a'bit on the side'.

Look at it with a laugh. If you feel that

I'm glad we have booked a hotel this time, Crowne Plaza, never stayed there before, but it's only a five min walk to the NEC, 3 night's in the hotel & two days to look around....

Of course its a rip off ... the NEC provide all the cabling, distribution points, labour, safety checks and provide the power for free... they also take it all down after for no charge as well ..... [end sarcastic mode]

Just where and how do 300 electric points suddenly appear from ??

It's not magic .. the kit has to be provided, moved, assembled, operated, taken down, and transported back. That all takes time, vehicles and money.

IF the CC did not do this as a self finacing exercise then all of us who DON'T attend would have very good grounds for the sort of whinge I see here.

JohnKS - caravanning is only expensive if you allow it to be - there are club sites, commercials and CL/CS sites withing striking distance of the NEC at less than half the CC's NEC rate - there are even lodges nearby at

Andy, They will get you with the Car Park charges, if you add this to your site fee, not a big difference, however you have to get in and out of the NEC. You would not be able to return to your van to eat, but will have to pay the inflated prices inside the halls.

When you take all this into account the CC price begins to look OK.

Best regards,

George

Just had alook at our tickets, it says free parking !!
Hello Sproket,

Theres always a first time for everything, maybe its a sign of the times and even the NEC have had to realise this. However they may have included it in the ticket price ?

Thanks for all the links you put on the Forum, I have found them extremely helpful, keep up the good work.

Best regards,

George

Free parking vs charged parking isn't really a NEC issue - it's down to the overall exhibition organiser to make the necessary arrangements with NEC - over a full exhibition year some give free parking, some don't.

As Roger pointed out, parking for the Caravan, Boat & Outdoor Leisure show is free and a free shuttle bus service runs from the car parks to the entrance of the exhibition hall.

There is a separate disabled parking area, also free.

As far as overpriced food is concerned there is an area where you can sit and eat a packed lunch with tables / chairs etc and this costs nothing.

There is also a Wetherspoons pub inside the venue and the meals there are reasonably priced and warm beverages are available.

We normally take a packed lunch and deposit the bag along with coats etc in the cloakroom near to the entrance and we just collect our sandwiches etc when we want them.

I'd baulk at paying

I wish you well in the Crowne Plaza. We have stayed at Intercontinental Hotels in various parts of the world and I have to state that the C.P in NEC has the worst food I have ever tasted. Possibly they have fired the chef and manager by now because it was uneatable, and expensive. The problem is that yes, it is close to the NEC itself, but there is nowhere else to go unless you drive. We flew into the airport so were a bit stuck. The rooms are fine though.

Mind you it was good fun listening to the salesmen discussing how many sales they had made, or otherwise.
