Cheap ferry to Ireland?

I have looked before and trying to find a cheap ferry to southern Ireland seems to be a rare item.

We would like to go to the wife's sister's boys wedding in August, but as that is a peak season time of year it looks like we would have to fork out £500+ for a return ticket. Most adds very craftily suggest a one way car + driver ticket for around £69. But who goes one way visiting an island!

So has anyone got any ideas on where I could get a good deal for a 5.5 Mtr car and a 7 Mtr caravan with upto 5 adults and 1 chocolate labrador.

Hi Steve I`ve posted on this before, there is no such thing as a cheap ferry to Ireland. You may find it slightly cheaper using the Scottish ports, but then from where you are the fuel would make it even more expensive. It would appear there is a great need for more competition on all Irish Sea routes. Cheaper to fly and hire a car.

Steve. try campingIreland.ie, get them to send you their booklet on Ireland 2011.
You are not going to get a cheap ferry crossing, but this booklet has All touring& holiday homes and campsites with static vans on. I know, its not really touring but they do have some good priced static hires and given the saving on fuel and uping sticks to take the caravan, it could be a cheaper alternative to taking the caravan and paying those huge ferry prices.Anyway the booklets free...

I remember that P&O had a deal a few years ago where they accepted Tesco clubcard points on their Irish ferry. Dont know if they still do but its easy to check on the Tesco website.

Thanks for the advice chaps.

I'll ring CC and se what they say.

I was hoping to take the van as we could pitch for free in the wife's sisters paddock at Killkenny.

The Irish sea does need more competition to bring the prices down.
