Checking for damp

I hear that damp can be a killer for caravans and even though I know it can be checked during service I am looking at during a lot of the work myself and would like to know how it is best checked.

Good old ebay has damp meters with digital read out for about £10, are these any use, or will they just freighten me showing that there is a level of damp all over?

Any help or comments appreiated.

just a tip,if you have a digital electrical meter set it to resistance/ohms & use the probes about 1" apart pressed into the van walls will give a good If rough idea of the severity of any damp, the higher the reading the worse the damp,no reading probaly OK

sorry it should of course read the higher the resistance the lower the damp content
