Chevrolet or Daewoo Tacuma

Possibly having read my cautionary tale about the Scenic and Abbey post, it's time to change cars (for those of you that may be worried what I did, I started towing with my disco).

The Tacuma looks good, and having checked max loads and gross train weights with Chevrolet, it looks good. My van is bigger- 1450 max weight now.So.............does anyone tow anything large with a 2.0 litre petrol one? Whats the fuel cons- If I get more that 20mpg that I get with the disco, i'll be happy.

Thanks, Norman

Hi Scouser - what discodo you have? My old 3.5 RR did about 18mpg solo and 16 towing. The 3.9 Discovery does about 21mpg solo and 19mpg towing. Awful figs for everyday use but we do not use it everyday having a smaller car on our "fleet"- But when the Disco is converted to LPG the cost equivelent will be closer to 40 mpg.

If yours is petrol then you could consider an LPG conversion rather than having the trouble of changing cars - depends on your personal situation and what you want to do of course.

If you have a 200 or 300 TDi - these things should tow a caravan up thye side of a house and still not do any worse than low 30's mpg.

They do suffer from gummed up injectors and Turbo hose problems (easy to fix) which will give the poor mpg you quote.

If its an MPi - probably not a good tow vehicle as the 2L engine would not give a huge towing capacity. I have no idea of the actual figs but I am sure someone will have them.
