Chlorine allergy

My (adult) daughter has a chlorine allergy, which means that she is unable to use most pools and has also reacted badly where the surround of salt water pools has been cleaned with a bleach solution which has then been washed into the pool.
We are, over the next few years, slowly walking the Canal Du Midi. This year we walked between Castanet Lock and the port at Bram. We stayed at the Pays Du Cathare site at Belflou, which has lake access. Next year, we plan to walk from Bram to Homps and need to base ourselves further East.
I know it's a long way off yet, but we enjoyed ourselves so much that I can't help mentally planning next year's trip already!
Does anyone know of a site in the area which has lake access?

I know a country that has wonderful Lakes for Swimming in some with hot springs feeding them. That is Austria, there are many sites in Austria and Germany too where you can bathe in the Lakes that have excellent caravan sites on them. Also we went to Switzerland this year and stopped at a site that had a fresh water pool on site.
I know this isn't the Canal du Midi area in France. But there are wonderful walking areas around these Lakes and in the Mountains and Hills beyond. Have a look at my website address is below this Post.

Thanks, Dianne. I am sure that your response will be useful to other forum readers. My daughter can't be the only one with this problem! However, walking the Canal du Midi is a project which we have been planning for a number of years, so it is important to us.

Thanks anyway.

Hi Joanne - I've been looking at my 'Le Guide Officiel..............' which lists absolutely every French campsite, and gives details of whether there is bathing in a river or lake rather than fishing. It might be worth trying to get hold of one, if you can. There's the Air Hotel Grand Sud at Couffoulens, 9 km south from Carcassone, which has access to a lake and river. There's A L'Ombre des Oliviers at Cazilhac which is 4 km from a lake with beach and swimming. There's also the Municipal site at Pepieux which is north east of Carcassonne, and 2km from a lake with beach and swimming. There's a site at Villemoustassou north of Carcassone which also has lake swimming. There are several others with river access, including one at Bize Minervois. Is this the area you're looking at? I'm sorry I don't have my trusty Michelin atlas with me at the moment and my google map is playing up!

Or a bit further east again is the campsite Le Val de Cesse at Mirepeisset, with a pool but access to a river and a lake with swimming at two kilometres. Again further east (and a nice looking site, we had a look around it last Thursday) is the municipal site at Capestang almost alongside the Canal du Midi and according to Le Guide Officiel has lake and river access at 2km (but doesn't mention swimming - although there are plenty of lovely places just up into the Minervois from there). It's a lovely area and we walked several stretches of the Canal du Midi during our recent holiday.
Le Guide Officiel is easy to use - and lists campsites by 'Department' so it's easy to find them in the area you're looking for.

Hi Val,

Thank you for doing all this research! I have already come across the first few sites you mention, but haven't yet researched them thoroughly. I don't know Capestang or Mirepeisset, but will look into those, as even if they are too far east for next year, they could be worth investigating for subsequent trips. I am also thinking about the site at Trebes, but, again, haven't gone any further yet (it's only September, after all, so this will keep me going for much of the winter!). We stayed in that area (Lezignan Corbieres) 3 or 4 years ago and passed through Trebes on a number of accasions. Trebes is likely to be the mid point of our walking next year.

I tend to use internet and maps to find sites and check them out with the CC Europe 1 voluem (with a hefty pinch of salt at times), but I will look into Le Guide Officiel.

Thanks.

Jo
