All booked for a week away over Christmas FSP of course, 16 amp and free wifi. Nearest hostelry 200 yards, should manage that. Stunning beach /sea views way down in South Devon . Took some time to find this one . Was a CL for 40 years now an independent to allow a few more on site. πŸ‘πŸ‘

A good find Dusty Dog,
We are seriously thinking of leaving both clubs, been in them over 15 years now. Never use the main sites, not suitable for our type of Caravanning.

And now there are so many independent ones giving more value for money. Including cl /C's type now 5 to 10 pitch sites. FSP.

Bye Bye The Clubs, they are just money makers. Look at the latest New year's offer, get one night free. As long as it is before Easter.

Hutch , you and Elaine will love it Dog friendly of course . Β£25 per night . No meters . In the height of the winter.πŸ‘πŸ‘. I’m struggling to recall when we last stayed on a Club site but Lest we Forget they instigated the CLs and CSs

Did you say dog friendly pub, or dogging friendly pub. . πŸ€”πŸ€”πŸ€”
Stuck again trying to get away, for hospital appointment so somewhere just local for us again. Within a few hours

Worst hospital appointment was when we were in Hutton le Hole. North of Pickering.
On the Wednesday, Got a cancellation appointment for the Friday morning in Milton Keynes. Took Mrs H on the Thursday to Newcastle for a funeral, ( Planned by the way) drove home to MK, had appointment in Hospital, back to Newcastle, then back to Hutton le Hole. Arrived back at the van 9 pm. Next day Saturday, back to Milton Keynes with the Caravan.

I think many members only belong to the club to be able to have Mayday and access to the CL network. Like you we have found commercial sites with FSP at a lower cost than the club and with more facilities and in many cases better location. I think the last time we used a club site was when we went to Spain and stayed over night at a Rookswood site in Southampton.

I had forgotten about The Mayday breakdown, time to rethink.

Mayday and CLs are the only things we use - the internet has helped searching for commercial sites with the "right" level of facilities, price and location.

Check out this link as you may be able to get the same cover without being a member of the club. https://www.greenflag.com/breakdown-cover/caravan-trailer

Just to add in 2005 we left the club for about 3 years as we were on a seasonal site. Every year I simply renewed our Green Flag Mayday policy and they never asked any questions.

A quick look says not quite the same CAMC wide cover eg Dual recovery not included with GF.

I do tend to go for club sites. personally I do not accept that they are always expensive and you know what you ae getting. The prices seem to be pitched slightly above average meaning you can find cheaper but you can also find more expensive. Sites operated by big organisations will always be more expensive that many family run sites simply because of higher overheads, higher staffing costs and family sites avoiding working hours restrictions. You do have to look at the bigger picture when comparing sites as the operating conditions are not always equal.

Seems I never got the post with the pictures as I cannot see any stunning views? Laptop probably playing up again. Maybe DD can post them again?
I didnβ€˜t post any! Beachball must know more than I doπŸ€”πŸ€”
You didn't post the name of the site either, so it looks as though Beachball is making stuff up to keep his post count up again. 🀨

All the different types of sites are competing for the same customers - having extra overheads is no excuse for higher charges in a free market.

On the point of "knowing what you're getting" that's actually the problem for many of us, they could be anywhere in the country and have no soul or unique points.

The major issue I have with CAMC is the inability to choose my pitch in advance . Trewethett Farm is a classic . You may not get a decent view of the sea and sunset. Why would I take a chance ? And no FSP

Club membership isn't a perquisite to be a caravanner, as with any activity its up to the prospective user to review the available information about what each supplier offers and choose the one (s) that most closely match their wish list.

To use Beachballs tag line "to each his own"

I’m almost inclined to say being a member of one of the two Clubs is a pre requisite especially for a new player. There are numerous facets to the Clubs over and above the Main stream sites. Caravan driving courses. Insurance schemes breakdown covers to name a few. I remain a member of both.

I am members of both but never had any intention of using club sites, simply because we prefer the CLs and CSs, also use CAMC insurance and will use Mayday when we start doing longer tours or go abroad.

Kev,
I’ll PM you . The location ticks the boxes as does FSP and Β£25 a night. I will have plenty of good Scottish pure malts too. We won’t be cooking Turkey , hopefully all the M&S nibbles after a few bevvies at The Pickwick Inn🍺πŸ₯ƒπŸ₯ƒπŸΊ
