Any recommendations for a caravan site from which it would be convenient to visit the Cinque Terre in Italy. I am aware that to drive around would be difficult and the train would be the preferred option so a site with good local rail links would be helpful. We wil be travelling in May/June with no children.

Hi Lawrence

We did the Cinque Terre in 2004 it was lovely. We stopped with the caravan at the site Camping La Sfinge at Diva Marina where there is a station where you can catch the train and visit all of the beautiful little towns on the Cinque Terre. This site is in the ACSI Camping Card book and is 15 euros per night with the card. The site was a good stopping place to visit the area.

Hope this helps. Web site is www.campinglasfinge.com

Hope this helps.

Hi Lawrence

We also did the Cinque Terre in 2007 and also stayed at La Sfinge. As with many Italian sites, the pitches themselves are not over large but the site is in the best location for the Cinque Terre walk which is stunning but quite taxing in places. You will enjoy it there.

Thanks Dianne. The Alan Rogers book suggests that this site would be ideal for tents because of the terraces there. Our van is 7.2 metres. What do you think?

Thanks Chrissylizzie. We have been to Itlay a few times and have been on some 'tight' sites. At 7.2 metres, would our van be ok here?

Hi Lawrence

You will find that compared to a lot of the vans on site used by the continental caravanners, that yours is larger than many. This applies to many sites where the Brits are as we often seem to have the larger vans! mainly I think, that we cannot guarantee as much outside living as the Dutch, French etc. so we buy more space. There were larger areas of the site and smaller areas, but i am sure the reception will sort you out accordingly. What time of the year are you going?

We go to Italy for six weeks from the middle of May to the end of June (ish!!). Not sure if we would be there towards the beginning or end of the trip. We tend to major in Tuscany and the Lakes with a 'new' destination each year.
