I have recently read a few letters in your mag about the citreon, I owned a C5 2.2 Diesel estate.

In Decembers mag a letter from a Neil Phillips stated that he towed a Adria 612 1700kg. Citreon informed me that ALL C5's had a towing limit of 1450kg because of the clutch on hill starts, is this right?

Confused

No I'm sure this is incorrect. I have a previous model (2005-2008) C5 2.0 diesel. There are a few variables so depending on engine size, Gross Train Weight, body type, gearbox type and the inclines you are likely to meet the limits are between 1100 and 1900. The larger manual diesels are around 1600 kg. e.g. my 2005-2008 C5 2.0 diesel hatch with manual box is 1500 kg for max 12 % incline, and 1900 for up to 8% incline. However I still would not tow a 1700 kg van with a last model C5 as the kerbweight is max 1591.

Every time I see the words C5 I immediately think of the Sinclair C5. The thought of that towing makes the mind boggle. Possibly Citroen did not know about it when they named their car.

we have a C5 and it is the best towcar we have ever had.

the old C5's had a towing limit of 1450kg, but the new model (2.2 diesel tourer) has a braked towing limit of 1900kg, and the kerbweight is 1765kg.

the new C5 is alot bulkier and has tonns of extra equipment as opposed to the old C5, so it is definatly heavier.

we looked at the new tourer model in france and it has really useful features like:

an electronic closing boot

electronic parking brake

boot light that doubles up as a torch

a button in the boot which raises and lowers the rear end of the car

a parking bay measurer (tells you if the car will fit in the space or not)

and the centre of the steering wheel is fixed, which is safer for when the airbag goes off.

the C5 is a great car, but alot of people are confused over the towing limits, citroen need to do something about it...
