I am changing my 406 for a Picasso and still can't decide whether to get a 2.0hdi or the new 1.6 hdi which appears to be more powerful.Any advice please?

i Currently own a 04 reg 1.6i petrol, nice car slightly underpowered, i know u r taking diesel however if you are thinking of towing with it citroen seem to realy restrict these cars, they give picasso's a lower towing limit than what would normaly be possible using 85% rule.

Watch the weights. The 2.0 hdi has a max towing weight of 1300kg and can tow it comfortably all day long. The 1.6 is a much lighter engine and this is reflectedin the towing weight - not sure exactly what it is but around 1050kg. Would seem to make it a no contest!
Jim, Dave's right. The 1.6HDi 16V has 110 bhp and 177 ft.lb of torque whereas the 2.0HDi only 90 bhp and 151 ft.lb. On paper at least, the 1.6 doesn't sound a bad bet, especially as max. torque is achieved at a lower rpm, i.e. it has a flatter torque curve which is always beneficial, especially when towing.
Sounds like the Peugeot 307. The 110HDi used to have a 2.0L engine with a reasonable max tow. To meet lower emissions and therefore get more fleet sales, Peugeot changed to a 1.6HDi with the same power but the max tow weight has been dramatically reduced to 1000Kg. Citreon may have done something similar. So although the towing weights look like a typing mistake, they are correct.
