The main sites tend to have full facilities as listed in your handbook and be of a reasonable size. Non members can stay at a premium. Standards are usually quite high.

CL's are privately owned club members only 5 caravan sites with facilities as listed in the handbook, range from a water tap and els an point to quite luxurious. The more basic the site the cheaper it usually is.

Grey13, I will try to explain..................

CL sites are allowed to operate because they have an 'exemption certificate' issued by the Caravan Club (CAMC).
This allows them to have a maximum of 5 caravans on site at any one time, subject to other conditions, and specifically a maximum stay for any caravan of 28 days. This avoids the need to apply for planning permission in the usual way. The Club also specifies certain requirements regarding fresh water; toilet disposal, etc.

CS sites operate under a very similar arrangement operated by the Camping & Caravaning Club (C&CC). A significant difference is that in addition to 5 'vans, the site can also accommodate tents.

They are all completely independent privately owned and operated businesses, and may set whatever conditions they wish. In both cases you have to be a member of the relevant Club in order to be able to use them.

(Just for completeness, there are a very few other '5-van' sites which operate under exemption certificates issued by other bodies).

We joined the Caravan Club (now renamed the Caravan and Motor Home Club) which gives us the best of both worlds - Larger sites with full facilities and smaller 5-van CL's. Full details of both are in the Directory, which you will get when you join.

Agree with Graig. At Poolsbrook CC site earlier this year in storm Doris. The van was steady behind a hedge but when driving from Morrisons a wheely bin went over the car! We stayed in that afternoon!!

Thats one site I think has become greedy , when we were down there last year before we went to Cornwall as our halfway point , they have made the grass into a corner piches which I wasn't too keen on . When we were down there about two or three years ago it wasn't like that , and as it was the beginning of factory fortnight holidays it was chocka and it felt crowded and to close .
