Cleaning inside faces of a roof light

Hi. Elddis Xplore 302 roof light. It is of the sort where there are two handles, one each side that you push upwards to open. Like in some caravan washrooms. It appears to consist of two plastic sheets. One to the exterior of the van, one to the van interior, as in a double glazed unit. However there are gaps/vents between the two faces so that you can get your fingers (just) into the space between. It is really mucky in there. Now by fiddling about with a jay cloth I could clean it in situ. However that is going to be a right faff.
Looking at it, unscrewing the 4 screws that hold the arms the extend to the handles, should take the whole unit off and then I can wash it in the sink.
However, this is us, technical and DIY idiots. My brain can work out what needs to happen, but the execution usually goes Pete Tong.
Any advice. Thanks in advance.

I had one over the rear dinette and what a faff to take it apart by unscrewing the handles and then the retainer screws that hold the two double glazed bits. A similar faff to refit it. Extreme care is required as they are quite fragile.
Can’t be bothered with such time wasting each year so a new midi Heki has now replaced it. I didn’t fit it myself but used a mobile technician. So much better. The two panels are sealed so no dirt ingress and easy to operate. Only drawback which is minor is that the Heki pivots up from the front so isn’t quite as flexible in changing wind conditions. But “what the Heki”.

Think there’s a YouTube video on how to dismantle your said rooflight. See if I can find the link.

Thanks OC and audiorob. Faffing about shoving a jay cloth on a large pipe cleaner though the gaps from the inside is looking increasingly attractive. :cheer: No way I am going on the roof or trestle ladder.
Thanks again

Unsure how big the slots are but would a special brush go through? I have a radiator brush that tapers and is flexible. Bought it at Lakeland.

Clearly whoever designed this roof light didn’t spend much time in a caravan or motor home. Another case of form over function.
