Hi All

I am getting black water marks on the outside of the caravan as you do. On my old caravan I used to use Femwicks cleaning items which did the job well. But reading this Forum and magazine Baileys have a problem with Fenwicks products so what do I use soap and water does not remove these marks or traffic film. HELP?

Kind regards best wishes Steve.

Hi Stephen we've just cleaned our Bailey with the Careavan products that Bailey have passed to use.

Brings the van up a teat.

By shear coincidence waxed my car the week before with Autoglym and the 2 polishes (Careavan and Autoglym) seem very similar.

Also have used Miracle dry wash and Armor all wipes to clean black marks off and polish at the same time.

Stephen,

You've got me worried now.

I've used Fenwicks cleaner and Fenwicks shine on my Series 5 Senator since new in 2006 and I've had no obvious problems with the products or the finish on the van.

It only gets the full monty done twice a year when I manage to get the van home from storage and in between I carry a bottle of Muc Off spray in the van, which I tend to use on site, with a bucket of water, if the van has travelled through bad weather and looks particularly scruffy.

The Fenwicks finish holds up well in between full washes, so what problems should I be looking for and are there going to be issues continuing using Fenwicks products.

Tomo,

I've seen Miracle dry wash advertised in the mags and apparently it's only available mail order as none of my local shops have heard of it.

Is it easy to use and will it be suitable to use on site for example.

Cheers to both,

Ken.

As far as I was aware , reading between the lines, it was alleged , and only alleged by Thompson plastics that Fenwicks overwintering was causing crazing of the ABS ends. How many caravans were involved? No idea. I asked Bailey about Fenwicks last year and they never told me not to use it. Se all the previous posts.

I use Fenwicks caravan cleaner shampoo, muc-off for the real stubborn stains and then Autoglym polish. Never used Fenwicks overwintering but I can say I have never hasd any problem with Fenwicks cleaner , nor Bobby Dazzler.

In fact I don't ever remember reading a post from anyone who did have a problem. It all started at local caravan dealers who put up warnings about Fenwick's on Bailey caravans. There were letters from Fenwicks and I think Bailey or Thompsons but in reality I don't think anyone can categorically say it was aFenwick product that caused the problem.

Cheers

Alan

Thanks Alan,

I've never used the over winter product, in which case I'll probably continue using the Fenwicks cleaner and seperate shine (forgot it was called Bobby Dazzler)as I'm more than happy with the results.

Hi again This is wat I Mean:-

'Care-avan' Caravan Hi-Tec Shampoo

Endorsed by Bailey Caravans & Approved by Avondale Coachcraft & "The Swift Group"

Statement from Nick Howard MD Bailey Caravan's:

In response to further questions regarding the use of certain cleaning products on our caravans, I can confirm the following:-

There is currently a difference of opinion between Fenwick's and Senoplast (raw material supplier), Royalite Plastics (raw material supplier) Thompson Plastics (panel component supplier) and Bailey Caravans as to the compatibility of certain of their cleaning products with Acrylic Capped ABS panels.

Unfortunately for legal reasons I cannot comment on this issue further at present.

I will re-iterate that to date only two of the products submitted for compatibility testing thus far have passed the relevant test procedures, these being Care-avan Hi Tech Shampoo and Care-avan Caravan Polish, and we cannot therefore give any guarantee on the effect other products may have on these caravan components.

Best Regards

Managing Director

We are pleased to announce that CARE-AVAN Caravan Cleaning Products have now been FULLY TESTED and ENDORSED by BAILEY CARAVANS.

To achieve this, we undertook ESCR Testing on both our Hi-tec Exterior Caravan Shampoo and Caravan Polish by the top specialist testing authorities in this field. Both products have undergone extensive and vigorous testing both in the U.K. with Manchester Plastics - a leading supplier of plastic panels to the Caravan Industry, and also in Europe with Senoplast - a leading supplier of raw materials for plastic panels, and would like to announce we have passed all tests. These tests have been extensive as you would expect from the most prestigious companies in this field.

Currently, we are the ONLY company that have passed their full tests.

Statement from Avondale Coachcraft Ltd

"Tested & Approved by Avondale Coachcraft Ltd for the cleaning of ABS

plastic components"

I know, as a fellow caravanner, that many of you have concerns about the cleaning of your caravans, and hopefully this will now allay any concerns that you may have had, that OUR Care-avan cleaning products are SAFE TO USE on YOUR caravan.

If you care for your caravan, you'll use Care-avan.

Many thanks and best wishes.

Stephen,

That puts it back into perspective thanks, think I might reconsider my last reply about continuing with Fenwicks.

Hi,

Re the CAREAVAN products - we use this on our 'van but notice that when the shampoo is diluted it doesn't remove all the black marks - we used it neat and the marks came off easily -then read the instructions which state... "do not use undiluted" will this cause damage to our 'van??

OMG! Any minute now the infamous "Polish King" will be posting, "told you so".

I've used Fenwicks on at least 5 caravans with no problems, the current and last two being Baileys.

The text from the Bailey manual has already been posted on this forum and nowhere does it say don't use Fenwicks. My S6 Wyoming owners manual, the absolute current manual, makes no mention whatsoever about Fenwicks products.

So as this whole issue has dragged on for over 18 months and all the technical gurus in the plastics industry and their respective Lawyers are getting lovely big fat fees maybe it's time for someone categorically state whether or not Fenwicks products are harmful to our caravans.

Until I hear and such don't use it proof , I for one have no intention of stopping the use of Fenwicks caravan cleaner and Boby Dazzler.

Cheers

Alan

We washed the van in the wash/wax then polished the marks out with the polish. There was a guy, we talked to, just up from us on site cleaning his Pageant with Fenwicks.

To be honest when we'd finished they both looked really nice but neither stood out against the other. I honestly think, like cars it's more about being commited to looking after the van than what product you use, as long as it's a legit, tested product made for purpose that is.

Ken

There is an offer in the Caravan Club mag. at the moment for MDW., also I believe Marks and Spencers sell it.

It's really easy to use, the kit comes with 2 microfibre cloths and plastic gloves.

Spray it on, wipe with one cloth and then buff with the other, it leaves a finish water just run's off as if it's been waxed. Tried it on a caravan window and it's brilliant (pardon the pun)no scartches.

The Armoral wipes are similar but when they started to sell they upped the price. Have a look at the Autoexpress site on products and check their review.

Miracle Dry Wash are great to deal with by the way just phone them on the freephone number.

Hope this helps

I seem to recall a similar thread to this some time ago.

I've always used Autoglym, we've had Avondale, Elddis and Bailey and never had any problems. Our current van is a 2008 Challenger and Autoglym shines and protects it a treat.

I find it difficult to believe that a van costing circa

I wouldn't like to participate in this subject if it takes on a life of it's own as in previous post.

All Im saying is I've been cleaning bikes, motor bikes and cars for over 50 years as well as machinery.

If you like a product and it does the job to your satisfaction then stick to it bud, but never be so stuck in your ways that you don't at least try other products, I can't even begin to remember the products i've tried/used.

By the way how do Bailey know what you use? Best thing to do is keep your mouth shut and get on with it, 'what the eye never sees, the heart never grieves'.

I shan't be on this thread again

Best regards

Tomo

For the dreaded Black Streaks I simply spray a little 'MUC OFF' on the offending mark. it can then be either just wiped of or washed off as you do the rest of your caravan.

Simple and works a treat!
