Cleaning the roof of the van

Hi all,

What is the best way to clean the caravan roof is it by ladder or can you actually stand on the roof and sort of mop it .

Kind regards,

Andy

Some newer vans will take your weight but I would be very wary of attemping this. Also if you are using a ladder use a free standing ladder - do not lean a ladder against the wall/roof corner of the van as you could cause stress at the jointing and thereby creating a leak. I am afraid it is the good old fashioned step ladder, leaning over and plenty of elbow grease. If you do find an easier way of doing it let us know. You could possibly reach some of the roof from inside if you have a modern large opening roof light.

I've recently acquired an ex-warehouse free-standing stepladder. It's 8 feet high with lockable wheels. The owners were scrapping it cos one wheel had come off. it means that I can reach all parts of the roof without any stretching or risk.

Three wheels on my ladder but I'm still cleaning my van .....

I use a steplader and a flow through brush on an extending tube, attached to the water tap.

To shampoo the roof, just dip the brush in a bucket of shampoo mixture and apply, then switch on the water and brush and rinse.
