We are quite new to caravanning and have 3 young children. We have seen a coachman 570/6 for sale, and like the layout of having 2 bunks (four beds)in an end bedroom. Does anyone know of any other model/make which has the same layout? (We're not sure of some damage on the one we've seen) We like the idea of the children being able to go to bed at a reasonable time, and us not having to freeze in the awning! Any help?

The layout sounds good for your needs. You don't have to freeze in an awning though if you take a blown heater.

I don't like the sound of "some damage" .

Who are you buying from ?

I once bought a second hand caravan which seemed in perfect condition other than a patch of fibre glass repair on a front corner. That should have been the key but I missed the signs. The van was too good to be true, beautiful condition with the exception that the alarm and radio, and mysteriously, the door fly screen, had been removed. Other wise looked fine.I p/x mine and away I went on a 250 mile trip where I met a friend who was a caravan engineer. In a few minutes flat he had a total scenario for the van. There was damp along the nearside wall, he checked the window to reveal a double skin on the sides. "Ah" he said, that, with the front repair, sounds like the van has been on it's side. Up went the front seats and he pointed to the off side wheel arch which you could tell had been repaired. This van had had a blow out, jack knifed ( hence the front end damage where the towing vehicle had collided, and dragged along on it's side. He said he wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. I rang the dealership who agreed to take it back...they had not declared any of these problems. I had the most worrying trip back until I had their return cheque cashed back into my account.

I thought I had checked everything, rang CRIS, got the transfer documents, the lot. I had cleaned and polished every square inch of the van but still missed the obvious.I had been 'vanning with 10 years of experience too !

Sometimes it worth paying a bit more from a proper dealership for the peace of mind you get. This was a "second hand van" type of place who specialised in buying vans and insurance write offs at auction.I could have gone a couple of years before the real problems hit me.

Be carefull.

You already seem to have smelt a proverbial rodent with the one you have seen.

Thanks for that. The 'van we saw was on E-bay. The damage was shown clearly in a picture but your comments have just clarified what I feared.
