I have purchased a 2009 Coachman Amara 550 which includes a microwave. The dealer has advised me to remove the microwave everytime I tow the van. It is pretty awkward to keep taking it in and out. Does everybody else remove theirs?

I have just got a 2009 Amara 560/6, recieved the same advice from my dealer, which seemed quite sensible to me, they said instances of the microwave "jumping out" had been heard of, maybe not just Amara's but maybe any van with built in microwave.

I do not find it much trouble to remove, only a trim panel to unclip and a socket to disconnect, how difficult can that be against the potential for damage should it decide to remove itself whilst being towed.

Regards

Hi. I remove mine and put it in the boot of the car. If nothing else, it gets rid of a fair bit if weight high up in the van which can only be good. As mentioned in the previous post, it's easy to unplug and lift out. I hope you enjoy your Amara, I got mine last year and I'm very pleased.

I've got a Bailey Pageant Champagne with a microwave and have towed thousands of miles with it in position and have had no problems. Only advice from Bailey is to remove the glass turntable - however, we don't even do this - just wrap it in bubble wrap and leave it in situ. Again, no problems.

I have taken mine out and left it at home, don't need it, seems a lot of messing about for the times we might use it and of course the the extra weight.

A good sales gimmick though.

But we were told to remove when towing.

we took ours out the day we bought the van and will only put it back in again when we sell the van.

its just my opinion but i can not see the point of a microwave in a caravan as they are just too heavy and lets be honest anything cooked in a microwave tastes awfull.

having said this the microwave was very easy to remove so if you do want to use it in the van i cant see the problem with removing it each time you travel, better safe than sorry with that much weight high up.
