Coachman Door Lock.

We are buying a 2013 Coachman Caravan from a dealer. When we went back to look at it yesterday the dealer was unable to lock the door. On another forum I read that new door locks were virtually unobtainable or there was a long delay before the parts arrived.
Presumably they will have to do an effective repair before we collect the caravan.
I am worried that they may have to try and do a dodgy repair if they cant get the proper parts.
What I dont want to happen is that the door lock fails and I have to take the caravan back to the dealer and wait for them to repair it under the 12 month guarantee.
If it does go wrong within a short time, do I have grounds to reject the caravan. ?

Ask for it to be replaced, it's small beer to the dealer and they don't want a dissatisfied customer coming back for such warranty work either!

As the dealer has discovered and declared the lock to be faulty, unless they they are entirely disreputable I don't think they are likely to be difficult about it.

The replacement of the part will be covered by the CRA, so its not just a 12month warranty.

What does concern me more is if you take the caravan with the faulty lock, can you adequately secure it to meet your insurance companies requirements? If you can't secure it properly, your insurance may not cover it if you suffer any loss.

Notmy Van, as you can see, lots of locks and handles around, New. I would hope the dealer would not want to lose a sale of a caravan for the sake of a dodgy door lock, especially if it is just a lock barrel.

I had a similar problem with my Swift, the lock broke under warranty and there was a delay in getting parts to replace it.
As a temporary fix the dealer fitted a Fiamma external security lock which was perfect. The door lock has now been replaced and the dealer let me keep the Fiamma lock which is great for additional security.

Yes, exactly, Until I retired I worked for an insurance company and know that if you leave a house unlocked or a window open and you are burgled while you are away, you are not insured.
