Sitting in our friends £48000 camper van in Spain , watching sky news ,when the broadcaster started talking about cold weather payments ,and my friend said thats good another £25 per week in the bank ,and i thought how many more people may get these payments and they are not even in the country , both my friends are registered disabled ,both would be far more abled if they lost 5 or 6 stone apiece ,

Joby, I am confused! FRIENDS????!!!!Are they? Not very smart to be so free with their financial affairs. They are just an example of how a good system gets abused and eventually leads to the needy paying the price. There will always be cases of this sort.It is an old story I am afraid.Just try not to let it make you feel bitter because there is nothing you can do,sadly that's life.It is disappointing though isn't it?

Another Government loop hole to close or will they seems they don't care how the dole money out hence the situation we are in.

Its like the free bus pass it was meant to be used locally not travel l the length and the breadth of the country, another loophole the government didn't close. Couldn't trust them to manage a p---up in a brewery.

Hi,

I can't comment on people living in EU. but think about those living in Oz, for example. They may have paid into the system all their lives. They retire, get a pension. They move to Oz to be with the grand children ....... and their pension is frozen. No annual increases. The unfairness is that they are unable to claim for medical expenses, so they are actually saving the UK money by living elsewhere. I won't mention the war.

Do we gain any similar advantage from people living in the EU? Its probably worth the

Hi Joby

If these friends are so obese I can see them suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure, angina, asthma etc in the near future.

The Spanish health care system will pay for their medical treatment, two less for our poor National Health system.

Cheers

In reply to 602 and pensions in Oz.

When you say their pension is frozen do you mean they can't get it or frozen regarding increases?

I'm no expert on this matter 602 but we have friends in Perth who emigrated in 1969 on the

Just for the record

If you are claiming disability payments you are only allowed out of the country for 2 weeks in each year Eu or not. If you go out for longer and you do not let them know and they find out you loose the payments NO IFs OR BUTTs

Stephen, when we were in Spain last year there were several folks who had moved out of their houses and were living in their vans. They were using a relatives address in UK for some reason.I dont know their full stories so would not like to make uninformed judgments. After being on this earth, for more years than I have left,I find it is best to have the full story first. Most of the people had worked and paid taxes in UK but were early retired due to ill health and were using the money from the sale of their home to make up their income. This is probably not the case in all instances. There is an old saying "WALK A MILE IN MY SHOES"

Just a personal observation, perhaps one should not discuss private affairs with anyone.

Hi,

My understanding is that your UK pension is fixed (not stopped)at the rate you were receiving when you moved out of the country. So there are UK pensioners living in Oz receiving the 1980 rate of State Pension, and entitled to nothing else from either country. And having to pay their own medical bills.

I wonder if there is any advantage in returning to UK every few years, just to reset the clock.

I queried retiring to Oz. This seemed to be acceptable to them provide we had

602,

our friends do come to the UK often but they have relatives/friends here who I assumed they came to see. I know money is no object to them. For the last three years they've done a round the world trip while calling in at the UK.

All these rules and regulations regarding pensions or benefits lose me. Still, as long as we've got enough to tide us over and to carry on vanning I couldn't give a ****** .. Heh! heh!
