Today on Radio 2

"Following the succesful opening of Terminal 5 I'm looking forwards to the London Olympics in 2013"

We'll be fully retired by the time the London Olympics comes around. Were looking for a remote quiet southern continental site in the sun for five or six months split either side of the event. No news and no TV would be a pleasant bonus!

What's the betting it'll turn into a complete cat's ar*e; venues not complete, transport system all to ****, etc.

Why is it that we no longer seem able to build anything, organise anything or run anything like we used to.

Gone are the days when we could build suspension bridges or ocean liners successfully to budget and on time.

Brunel would be scatching his head at this latest farse.

Poor old Brunel and Co must be whirling in their graves! Mind you, they generally worked with, and alongside, commonsense. Nowadays it's all run by twenty something, just out of Uni kids, helped by computer programmes written by mostly the same ilk. Simple things, like making sure the staff can get in the building, went right over their heads. Not in the computer programme I suppose....

Given to 2014 and London Olympics could be quite good.

Is it not strange how Britain did so well and built great things when it was ainly full of Brits.

Since socialists bought votes with give away policies for the masses and the doors were left open to immigration to plunder our coffers the country seems to have been going to the dogs.

Old Isambard wasn't 100% either, he built the atmospheric railway a few 100m from my house. (it wasn't my house then I'll have you know - lol) Lasted a year partly because rats ate the leather seals.

I wonder if thats the problem at Heathrow! Rats have eaten the luggage belts.

Colin (bridgend), I'm afraid Shady is correct it is yourself that is wrong about the 2013 games, Wembly was a year late, if we can't build a football pitch on time what chance is there for a multi sports venue and swimming pool.

I've already booked my poolside seat for the delayed event in 2013 :0)

I never really understand all this cr*p about each country trying to outdo one another over the Olympics. Most countries never use the facilities again and spend their taxes paying for it. Why does each country not support an event in Greece where the idea was conceived. If then a political incident occurred eg Tibet, then it would not have such political implications.

The only gold medal we will win will be in digging holes.
