Hello Stephen

We are experiencing serious condensation on the front window, the other two also show lesser signs of condensation. Over the past few weeks 5 out of the 8 windows began to show signs, depending on the type of weather. Worse in cooler conditions but still there when hot and sunny days. The van has just been brought back from its 1st service!!!

As the van is still under warranty it was reported as a fault and, although the caravan company attempted to get rid of the fault(s) they failed. I refused to leave the service area without this issue being resolved. Very quickly they agreed to order a complete set of new windows! Will take 6-8 weeks, less hopefully. Not a good advert when we are going on holiday. Luckily my persistence(I tend to be like a dog with a bone!) pais off and will get the problem sorted for good. Then we will exchange the van. Will never be happy with it.

We were advised initially, to take out the window plugs and use a hair dryer to get rid of the condensation - didn't work for us, but it may help you if the condition isn't too bad.

Hi, I have recently posted requests asking for help in eliminating condensation and have also asked Caravan Club helpline and caravan faultfinder. A friend has had two brand new caravans in the past five years and tells me he had condensation from day one. Supplier said it was quite usual and nothing could be done about it as windows are not hermetically sealed nor is the space between the "glasses" evacuated. Humid air can get in at loose plugs or even through the seals. Caravan Club say acrylic itself is actually porous. A guy I was talking to yesterday says he has never had the problem as he always uses car wax (not the liquid type) on the windows when he washes the van.

General concensus is that there is really nothing can be done to completely eliminate the problem - the old routine of removing the plugs and applying heat to the outside via a hairdrier can get rid of the condensation one day but it might very well reappear the next.

Wait until winter - in the morning on a clear blue sky day with temperature just below zero - remove the plugs in all the windows and open all the windows. Refit the plugs and close the windows in the afternoon.

Humidity is usually measured as % relative. This is because warm air holds a lot more moisture than cold air. Below freezing, there's very little moisture in the air.

Ventilating the double glazed cavity in this way will ensure minimal moisture.
