Hi Everyone,

This might be a daft question but i have to ask. We were away this weekend for the first time in winter, we had a great weekend away but one of the things we noticed was the condesation on the windows - but none of the other vans there had any.. Are we missing something? How do we make sure we don't get condensation on the windows?

Thanks!

Becky

Hello there, in a nutshell "ventilation", we allways leave a couple of window's and the heki roof lights on the night latches, basicly you need to provide an escape route for the warm moist air in your van, with out this it hits the cold surface of the windows or a cold spot on the sidewalls etc and then condenses, think of it as breathing on a mirror ,the colder the mirror the more it mists up, hope this explains the process Mark

Lots of reasons for this. If this is the first time out for some time then the furniture might be damp and you heating it brings it out. You are also breathing out massive amounts of water vapour. All this condenses on the cold windows. Perfectly normal. look out for condensation between cushions and wall, if your van does not have wall boards. (Tip the cushiosn up when you out and they'll dry out.) Modern vans are well ventillated but take soem simmple precautions- open a rooflight when cooking. Dry towels in the bathroom, possibly with the roof light partially open.

Hi Rebecca,

As well as leaving a couple of windows and roof light on the night catch, make sure you leave your heating on 24 hours a day. We caravan during the winter in freezing temoeratures, snow and ice and never have condensation. The secret really is ,couple of windows on night catch and never switch the heating off. A good tip we were given a few years ago,is to buy a few rolls of camping mat. It is sold in approx 6 feet lengths and 18 to 24 inches wide and comes in rolls. It is about one centimetre thick. It is what campers lie on at night, and is non absorbent.

Put it between the rear of the bunks and the caravan wall. Also if you have a fixed bed put it between the side of the bed and the caravan wall.It has fantastic thermal qualities and keeps the rear of the bunks warm and also warms the caravan wall.We also line the floors of the bunks for extra warmth, making sure not to block up all the air vents. It costs about
