Have not towed on the continent for many years and for the first time will be doing soin France on my own.

This is not a problem when on dual carriageways/motorways, but on "trunk" roads a high vehicle is difficult to overtake as you cannot see on-coming traffic without exposing at least the front end of your car!

Need something to clip onto the passenger side of the car to view forward to give me info on oncoming vehicles.

Toni, I`ve driven abraod for years with the wagon, there is no safe way to pass in those circumstances, just go with the flow and arrive safely to enjoy your holiday.

I agree with Phil, too, but if you must overtake stay well back so that you can see past the lorry then if all's clear, go like hell! Too close and you can't see anything. The stay well back method does need a large powerful car, as you need to be able to accelerate swiftly. Better just to wait, really.

Hi, one exception to this rule, Leaving Trier towards Koblenz, there is a very long RH bend along the Mosel, A RHD vehicle is the only one to be able to safely see to overtake, through the inside of the vehicle to be overtaken.

You used to be able to buy a mirror type of contraption that fitted where you tax disc goes and looks down the road and displays the view in the car, works similar to a periscope, but I haven't seen one for years. The chap I worked with used to swear by it,as he always travelled overseas on his own.Hope fully somebody else might remember the name of it.Health and Safetys probably ruled it illegal now!!!
