Corn Lice repellant advice…..(doing our heads in)

Hey folks

We are once again on our holidays for a few weeks, and noticed the place invaded by Corn Lice

…..honestly they are EVERYWHERE !!

Can anyone please recommend a plug in or candle / oil we can burn to fend off these little pain in the arse beasties!

We used citronella candles around the awning or sitting out area and inside the caravan. They don’t normally bite unlike the Scottish Midge, but to try and deter them from landing on us we would use a proprietary insect repellent containing Deet.

These can also help but not for indoor useage.

Someone told me that burning cannabis deters mossies and other nasties. Couldn’t possibly comment.

We had a plug in repellent years ago. Seemed to help. Perhaps liberal applications of Avon Skin so soft on all of you will also deter them.
BTW never heard of corn lice. Had to Google it. For those as poorly educated as me, they are also known as Thrips or Thunder flies

I had two bites on my left ankle a few weeks ago. No idea what beastie did it. But the worst I have ever known. Volteron did help to get me some sleep. They kept on flaring up. In Provence a few years back I counted over 100 bites on both of us. Thats each. But they were not this bad. Just eased up last couple of days.

we keep deet in the caravan and use citronella candles in the awning but the most effective ready use ammunition that I have found is RAID (found in pound shops) this stuff really knocks them down but I don't know how it work on these things but kills everything else

be very , very careful of potions containing Deet, this stuff melts plastic, pvc etc, and you apply it to your skin !

I’ve used Deet in countries around the world as protection against malarial mosquitoes, ticks etc . May not be totally necessary in these Gilded Isles but it is effective and given it has been in use now since 1946 I’m quite happy to continue to use it when required. I never go above 50% concentration and take care to avoid it getting in my eyes, but lower concentrations are available. I tend not to use it on clothing as a lot of my wear is artificial fibres, and as you say it can damage artificial fibres.

A plus 1 for Avon Oh so Soft, keeps mosquitoes away as well, nece fragrance as well

The best protection against mosquitoes is Gin & Tonic. LOL! Actually rum and coke seems to work quite well. I think they fall of drunk. LOL!

Be wary about using Deet-based products - it can wreck leather so make sure you wash it off your hands before getting in the car - had to have the steering wheel replaced twice on my previous Hyundai until I realised what was causing the problem

Yeh we didn’t bother with the deet as the other half said its strong!

We used a couple of Citronella candles which helped

You can buy DEET repellent at various strengths. I’ve never gone above 50% but that was in areas with malarial mosquitoes or other infective insects.
