corner steady

Hi, how do i tell what make of chassie my van is based on, I need to replace one of the corner steadies as one of them snapped at the weekend and i had to use the car jack while we were away. The van is a 1987 fleetwood colchester. Thanks, Tony

Hi

There should be a metal label on the axle, subframe or hitch which should tell you.

Corner steadies are still available in various sizes and the best way to obtain a new one would be to remove the old one and take into a caravan dealer for him to match.

You say you have snapped it .. what part has broken?

I ask this as you can replace the central spiral shaft without the need to remove the whole unit as this can be difficult.

I hope this helps

Nigel

Tony, often the part that snaps is on the block that moves along the spiral shaft, usually the lugs break off around 1987 a number of van makers used nylon blockes which caused the problem, before and since they use metal and these are readily available and easy to fit.
