Council to use ANPR for moving traffic fines.

I read that Wiltshire Council has sought permission to use ANPR to levy fines for moving traffic offences (MTO). It will be a limited trial if permission is granted, and breaks with the norm that up to now only the police can levy fines for MTO. Do not know if other councils have such powers, other than for low emission zone infringements.

A number of authorities already do that, TfL does it in London and Birmingham does it for bus lane, box junction and ULEZ enforcement

Wilts are planning to use them for speed limit enforcement which has been the responsibility of the police.
