Creaky Swift floor ??

Hi all,

The van has just returned from having warranty floor delam done. It is a 2000 Challenger 500, with the bed on the left with bathroom next to it and sink in the bedroom.

We thought that the floor delamination by the bathroom door was causing the awful creaking but obviousely not. Everytime we step on the floor infront of the bathroom door there is a really bad creak. It doesn't sound like the floor, it sounds more like wood rubbing but have had a really good look and can't see anything that can be causing it.

Has anyone previousely tackled this ??

Thanks

Ian

I think I read a post on here a while back about this problem.

If I remember corectly it has got some thing to do with one of the body bolts onto the chassis.

I think the answer was to get under the van with a socket wrench & check for loose bolts.

I hope this helps

Hi Ian, I had a similar problem on our Elddis, while it was in for its first service the dealers had a look and said the problem was caused not by the floor but two adjoining pieces of furniture rubbing together they cured the problem by slackening off the fixing screws and inserting some padding in the joint. I must admit since we got it back the problem has disappeared.

Hi both,

Thanks for your replies. Just went out to the van now Jasper and had a look, between the bed box and the bathroom wall there is a gap and swift have put a piece of wood in there so that we cannot see up the gap. It appears that the wood was rubbing on the bathroom wall. Have just slackened the screws and to test if it was that i also put a tissue behind it and the creak has completely gone. I would never have thought it would have been this as it looks so tightly screwed together, and as I said in the post i checked the area really well but it appears by moving it with my hand it doesn't creak - it only happens when the floor was walked on.

When it is light I will also check for any loose body bolts just incase it is also this.

Thanks for your help !

Hi Ian, happy to hear your problem seems to be fixed, I was also doubtful when the dealer told me of the cause of the creak.

Just goes to show how misleading some of these noises can be !!.

We have a 2002 Onyx (same layout as your Swift) and had a creak when walking by the sink. I sprayed some silicon oil along the bottom edge of the bed where it meets the floor and then tightened all the screws - cured!

It's worthwhile going round the 'van tightening loose screws. It's amazing how many are loose.
