Croatia, prebook or turnup

I'm off to Croatia in two weeks in a motorhome and I have booked sites along the way but nothing when I get there, I thought it may be nice to tour around and see the country. Does anyone know if you can turn up at sites without pre-booking?
 
It's 5 years since we visited Croatia (in September) and we found Istria, in particular, very busy with Bavarians, who have a late holiday. The Adriatic coast is very popular with the Germans because of the relatively easy access. We were able to get a pitch but often there was very limited choice. In high season, I would strongly recommend booking.
