Going to Lanterna Camp in August any recommendations for what to see and do, and anything that's not worth bothering with. We have four children aged 14,12,9 and 7. Thanks

Went to Croatia in 2003, stayed at Rovinj and hated every second of being there. It was great to look out over the Med just horrible when you turn around again. I'm sure there must be some great places to stay there but unfortunately for us we'll never see them, it wouldn't do if we all liked the same things though would it?

Slovenia on the other hand we thoroughly enjoyed, stayed on a great site at the end of lake Bled. It's a bit crowded as you enter the site on the marked out pitches, but as you move through the site there are much larger areas to pitch on (a must with a van 8.1m long) and some even have the shade of trees.

Last year we stayed in Funtana which is just up the road from from Lanterna Camp. I wouldn't rate Croatia quite as bad as Rob. Porec is quite a pleasant place, but to be honest, I wouldn't go a second time. There really isn't that much to see and do in the immediate vicinity and, like all resorts along the Istrian coast, don't go expecting sanding beaches.

Interested in your comment re Slovenia/Lake Bled. I expect to be there late to early June. Which camp site did you use and when were you there? Any pitfalls I should be aware of , any probls with language, I speak some German and French. Any probs with Euro's/exchanging them etc. Thanks in anticipation.

The site I stayed at in Bled was called surprisingly, Camping Bled. Website is http://www.camping.bled.si

We stayed there in August 2003 and staff in the reception speak good English. There is a fair amount of English spoken in the country in general, so if you speak German as well you won't have a problem (at least we didn't)

Hi All

Thanks for the comments is Croatia really this bad, has nobody got anything good to say, please???? We may revise our plans now, but any suggestions, we've done Spain a couple of times, France a few times and Italy the last few years, looking for a change now, but it has to entertain the kids or my holiday ain't a holiday.

Thanks

In principle, Croatia isn't bad and most campsites that we came across offered quite a lot for children. However, most holidaymakers there are Germans or Dutch, so getting by with English can sometimes be a bit of a problem. I'd say, if you've been everywhere else and want a change, give it a try. You'll probably find it quite OK but I doubt whether you'll return in raptures. The weather will be as good as anywhere around the Mediterranean and, as I said before, Porec is quite a pleasant place but there are few sandy beaches.

Also interested to know about Croatia. We are thinking of going with Touring Cheque as its in their brochure this year. We will be going out of season as you can't use the cheques in July and August, I don't think. Suggestions for June holidays welcome.
