Curious about a documentary subject. Opinions appreciated.

I do like a good documentary. And no doubt subject matter is endless. Also. I have always been fascinated by borders, be they international, county, parish, or state. I believe they all must have a story to tell. Most will be mundane and boring, but I feel sure that others must be full of history and intrigue. Take the England-Scotland or England-Wales. Not necessarily as a whole, but as individual sections.

Then there is the wild west. The Mason-Dixon line. And other countries that have simple straight state borders.

An example that got me thinking, after watching the film 'Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri'.
A search showed me that Epping is fictitious. But I spotted that the Missouri-Kansas border seems to divide Kansas City. It looks like part of Kansas is in Missouri.

As I was curious I wrote to a couple of television companies suggesting that borders could form the basis for a documentary series. (I never sought any payment). Apart from nice acknowledgment messages. I have heard no more.

I would be interested to know if others thought borders might be an interesting subject.

What a brilliant idea ! I for one would be an avid viewer of such a series.

I recall a 3 parter a while ago on the BBC telling the story of the partition of India. What a total lash up that was! It might still be on iplayer

When the powers divided up Africa, no thought was given to borders for many countries hence the continuous fighting between African countries. Makes a very interesting read, but sadly will never ever be a documentary.

I have noticed that there is a small part of Spain inside France in the Pyrenees and another on the North Africa Coast. I think the history of borders and how they were decided would be a great subject for a documentary. Also, maybe including the loss of borders such as the unification of Italy and how that was achieved with all the political interests of the various principalities involved.

I think there are 5 Spanish enclaves on the north African coast. Llivia a Spanish enclave in France is a historical and cartographical anomaly. I wonder why the Spanish want Gibraltar back when they still have these enclaves in foreign countries?
