Cynicism re Movers

I'm in the market for a new mover - probably the Powrtouch Evolution.
Powrtouch always get high praise for the service, etc. Surely, if they're that good they should not be suffering the breakdowns that are reported or is it that problems with other makes of mover don't find their way to this forum? It's a shame that the recent item on movers in the July edition didn't cover reliability.
Anyway, Powrtouch Evolution (manual) - good choice or what? Any thoughts gratefully received.

Although we have a very intermittent fault with our new Powertouch mover, in generakl we are happy with it. I think the Truma mover and the Powertouch are now probably the same except different branding. In hindsight we should have bought a Konig motor mover for our twin axle as cheaper and very reliable.

Hi Surfer
Being the cynical soul that I am do you have any evidence that Konigs are more reliable than others?

Hi Mike,
Can only speak from our experience - we have an Evolution manual engagement on our Lunar Clubman SE. Very happy with how it performs. We have moved what is quite a hevy caravan (MTPML 1,495Kg) over some pretty steep, wet & rough farmers' fields without any problems. It has certainly made our life easier, as there is now way we could manhandle a caravan of that size, & the storage yard is very tight when it comes to putting it back into its bay. Too tight to reverse it in using our tug.

Cheers,
Jim

I can only confirm both Powrtouch and Truma offer a second to none customer service, for 5 years no quibble. Maybe that's why so many people praise them.

Plus of course with a larger market share there are bound to be more comments

I have used a Powertouch for last 12 years. Moved between 3 vans. In 2012 I decided to go for the new Evolution Automatic. Very pleased so far.

Hi, Had Powrtouch movers on two successive sa vans. Never had another make so can't make a comparison. The first one was a manual and was so hard to put on (my OH was an averagely strong 49 year old at the time) that he broke the socket wrench supplied and bent the actuator bar. We got that retro fitted with a motor actuator eventually; this was fab. Had another Powertouch fitted to the next van when we bought it new. Motorised actuator. Two years in, both of the motors that put the rollers on failed independently within a month of each other. Having said all this we use the motor mover a lot. Mainly getting the van on our drive which is sloping and has a tricky access, and also because we are cr~p at reversing. The service from Powertouch has been brilliant with an engineer around in a day or two to sort it on each occasion. I would have another.

Had a PowrTouch for 6 years now, heavily used on 2 caravans - no issues, runs perfectly.
We all want failure rate to be as low as possible - but - when a failure occurs we want support without any aggro and that's where many internet posts about PowrTouch originate from, not their failure rate.

Their outboard motors are extremely reliable and rugged so I would like to think the same applies to the motor mover.

Your trust may be justified, but it's not a logical extrapolation.

Just because a company may have one or more fantastic products, it does not guarantee that any of their other products will have the same attributes. That can apply even where the products have similar applications, but where the applications are different the experience in one field does not necessarily transfer to alternative products to produce the same customer experience.
