On page 5 of this morning's Daily Mail, it states quite clearly that during the current hosepipe bans here in the South, you ARE allowed to hose down your caravan. Rightly or wrongly, I would read into this would apply to your camper-van as well.

So if your pride and joy is looking a bit worse for wear here's proof positive that it needn't any longer.

Vic, Since when has the Daily Mail Newspaper? become the law.

I would check the facts with the local police first, before taking any newspaper as gospel.

If you were caught washing a caravan with the use of a hose pipe and taken to court could a counter claim be made against the paper for wrong advice? If so how successful would it be - a point to think on no doubt?

The other alternative is to move to Wales as there is no hose pipe ban here and the rate of leakage from the system is a lot lower than the water boards serving the home counties. There is a lot of good to be said about living in Wales.

Is this a police matter?

Maybe checking with your local water board would be more prudent............

Here's an update.

I checked with my water company here in Hertfordshire - Three Valleys Water - and their response was quite emphatic. As a touring caravan is regarded as a vehicle, a hose cannot be used to wash it down and therefore the hosepipe ban remains in force.

Therefore, "bucket and chuck it" remains the watch word.

Sorry, don't blame me, blame the Daily Mail.
