Damaged awning rail

Whilst leaving a CL recently which had a VERY narrow entrance/exit I managed to damage the awning rail on the nearside at the rear of my van. The rail has been crushed for about 8 inches in length. Tried to repair the damage using a screwdriver to no avail. The bed of the rail is still OK and hasn't come away from the van.

Are there any devices that anybody is aware of that are readily available on the market which will 're-open' the rail or is this a job for a caravan repair shop.

Steve, we've all been there, done that! Most good caravan shops will sell a tool specially designed for the job. It's metal, about 3" long, and the ends are shaped to fit into the awning rail.(two sizes). In use, just put the end which fits best into the rail, and tap it gently along the damaged section.(use a light hammer, on the shank of the tool) Hey Presto, job done.

Nice one Emerson, thanks for the advice.
