damp in rear roof

we have a ace harmony 4 berht 1993 at the rear on the left we have a clothing cupboard on the right a shower with hand basin fixed to rear outer wall above the sink is a wall unit for toiletries below is the toilet i droped the wall unit off today because of damp on the internal roof panel around the light above the sink some of the roof structurein this area is missing rotted away is it easyer to remove the outer roof bend at this point or attack the problem from inside the van

Very difficult to say without seeing it Mark, but I think you`ll have to attack it from both sides, starting with where the water is coming in which will mean getting the outside rail off as you need to cut away any rot, replace then reseal.

started with water coming in from outside top roof joint sealed this no more damp but inner roor panel bubbled so took it off today then found this prob not sure where to start the repair

You can only start where you found the problem Mark and work from there.

Be prepared to cut out any rotten wood and remove any wet insulation. You just have to keep going until you get to solid wood, but wood which is wet but not rotten should dry O.K.

If you have any rot where the awning rail or roof joint is they will have to come off to get all the old rotten stuff out.

When you said you had resealed the roof joint, did you take off the aluminium strip and clean everything off before resealing , and did the screws all tighten back O.K? If you didn`t do this you`ve wasted your time.

i did take off aluminium strip and clean it up the water stopped coming in but a large bubble appeard in the inner roof caravan repair man said its drying out ok no damp there now he did a test but as i said looked and found this prob
