I bought a 2011 Swift Charisma 560. It was a trade-in against a static on a very good site (there's a waiting list for statics) I was visiting with my friend in her motorhome. The van had one previous owner, an elderly couple, who owned since new and it appeared to me to be very well looked after...No damp smell but there were a couple of mildew spots on the front windows (this was in March) but no wet areas around windows since and I have been in it constantly since then. No problems at all other than a couple of issues with blinds and there was some issue with the toilet needing a part which the site owner had fixed immediately. I had chosen not to use the shower as I wanted to keep the van dry so I use site showers and toilet...apart from late night. He also told me he didn't think his handyman had it totally level and after weeks of asking him to fix...its just being done now. There were no signs of damp anywhere i looked and cleaned in every area, no smell, nothing. However, I have just been cleaning the shower tray with a damp cloth and drying because it doesn't get used...didnt run any water through shower head since purchase in March but yesterday I did for the first time and the water was couple of inches deep but didn't actually reach the plughole...I had to push it to be drained which it did and I assumed this was because the levelling was slightly off, but today 24 hours later when i opened the bathroom door there was an overwhelming smell of damp, totally out of the blue......and now I'm worried!

It could just be the shower drain pipe, which if it hasn't been used for some time would dry out, but as soon as any water is drained through it it could have reactivated any debris left in the pipe.

I suggest covering the shower plug hole with something to temporarily seal it. Allow then bathroom to ventilate for a while, then see if the smell returns. If it doesn't - its means it just in the pipe, and good drain cleaner will probably sort it out. IF teh smell persists then it does suggest something else may be amis, but its virtually impossible to resolve this over a forum chat, you would almost certainly end up having to get some sort of professional help.

Dont forget there are a band of great mobile caravan engineers, who come to you, and usually cost less than taking the caravan to a dealer.

Thank you...I just looked at mobile guys and will call the one with 100% reviews and get service done too.

probably the best thing. Remember this is a road vehicle and also has gas and electrics which might need checking. I would have it serviced to be sure everything else is in order.
