damp

We have stored our caravan under cover (in a large barn) over winter, having removed all the soft furnishings and used condensation crystals. However, when opening the van after 4 months I have found the lower cupboard doors in particular have a fine white dust on them. It looks like a sort of mould which washes off easily. Everything else seems pretty dry including papers and books left in the van. Is this normal and what can we do to prevent this in future?

Hello Catherine,

Condensation is caused when relatively warm moist air comes into contact with a cold surface.

The best way to prevent it is to keep the van ventilated so that none of the surfaces become excessively colder than the air temperature.

Having not seen the 'dust', I do not know what it is, however as you have stored it in a barn, could it be dust from the barn?

Hi John

Thanks for the comment.

The white dust is more of a bloom and does not come from the barn. Having felt the various surfaces in the van, the cupboard doors are the coldest surface so I expect thats why they are affected.
