Did you get any kind of damp report from the first engineer? If so have you shown it to the dealers.

Failing that contact the manufacturer of the van and explain your problem to them.

best of luck

In that case George I would contact Bailey direct and voice your concerns. I certainly would not let it drop until you are happy that you have a damp free van.

I dont need to tell you that damp is a van killer, I would chase it all the way if I were you.

When you say "with an aproved nca caravan engineer ", who was he approved by?

If he states the manufacturer, ring the manufacturer and check out if his claim was true.

If he says he was NCC AWS approvedm which he MUST be to do anywarranty servicing on your van, ring the NCC AWS and ask for confirmation of his approval.

Once you have that information dictates what you can do next.

nca approved, on its own, means nothing at all and will have invalidated your bailey warranty. the only people approved to service bailey caravans, which will not effect baileys warranty, is a bailey approved workshop or an AWS approved workshop/mobile technician.

Hello George,

Given that two independent measurements had confirmed there was a problem, suggests very strongly there is something to be resolved. The fact that the dealer now fails to find a problem , may be down to a number of factors.

You may well have seen other threads on the forum that explore the challenge of getting reliable moisture testing carried out.

There are a number of factors that affect the reliability of the reading.. just to mention a few of them, the instrument and its calibration status, the technique used to obtain the reading,

and given different weather/storage conditions the readings can change.

So it is quite possible for different readings to be obtained by two different people, and even more likely the reading will be different on different days.

The question is how different were the two sets of readings? If the first set were just above the threshold, and the second set just below, that could be normal variance due to some of the factors above. But if the readings were radically different then that calls into question one if not both sets of results.

In this situation the dealers first set of results confirmed your own engineers evidence, and that places a high probability there is a problem. So I should insist the rail is changed.

If the dealer is reluctant to change the rail then do contact the manufacture direct, tell them the details and supply copies of the reports, even if the first report was not done by a manufactures approved dealer, it is still evidence of a problem which was confirmed initially by the dealer. ask the manufacture to have the rail replaced.

Have you inadvertently touched the black rubber?(assuming you have round the window) if so you will get a damp reading.

Other than that i suspect surface condensation. Have you a damp test meter yourself? your OP is unclear.

But anyway i would think your main dealer is correct if he confirms they is no damp.

I carried out my own damp test last week, i use a cheap 3 led type damp meter, all areas were clear apart from inside one wardrobe, this showed one red led, why? because the door had been inadvertently left closed, i'll check again in a week, and will be amazed if the reading is still in the red.

One red led does not require action anyway.

What i am saying is do your own testing, do not trust 3rd parties, only if you find damp, would i use the dealer to confirm it.
