We are selling our Lunar this year. Should we sell privately or through a dealer? I guess dealers pay a lot less but are private buyers a problem? I'm concerned about timewasters, hagglers etc

I would sell privately providing you know that your caravan is in good order and has no hidden nasties. Be prepared to show everything is working, ie water connected and fridges and lights etc.

Money in your pocket is better than money in a dealers. And the more cash you have the better deal you can get when you buy the new van.

Use of an answer phone or maybe using another sim in a mobile phone will cut time out wasters and constant calls. If your van is in good condition you should have people snatching your hand off to buy it, and don't be surprised if you get lots of "trade" calling offering you silly low offers.

We have sold both privately, and also trade in.

You will not get as good price with a trade in, but you don't get the hassle. Unfortunately selling privately does involve alot of time wasters, and those that want something for nothing, and lets not forget, those who want all your equipment thrown in for free as well!!

We now trade in, and have always reasonably happy.

I`d definatly sell privately.

After all most dealers won`t offer much for a `leaky Lunar`. I know, I had one, as well as a `leaky Mardon`,a `leaky ABI` a `leaky Eccles` a `leaky Abbey`, er, well actually they`ve all been `leaky` although the dealers never actually saw any of the vans.....

Of course, the models I were interested in were exemplary in their construction unlike the things I were trying to foist upon the poor dealers.

A decent van will command a decent price and it should be to your benefit not a dealer whose only concern is is profit margin.

Just make sure the money is in your hand before you part company, there are a lot of scams out there.

Thanks for your replies. Private it is. We had a price from a dealer yesterday, needless to say very very low. They had no interest in the extras the 'van has like new curtains, carpets, CD player, Tyron bands etc. The'van is in very good condition so neither a dealer nor private sale is having it for nothing other than a sensible price! I think we'd rather keep it than let someone else have it for nothing.

You could put it on eBay so long as you fix a sensible reserve - I wish I had when we traded in our 2 year old 'van as an identical one to ours went for more than the dealer SOLD our trade in far!
