Delamination??

Hi all.

Does a delaminated floor make a sound when you stand on it? I have a 2004 Senator Oklahoma. If you stand on the floor between the fwd seats it makes a sound, as if the floor panel is warped, or loose. It's quite hard to describe but if you put your feet in a certain area then 'rock' from one foot to the other you can get the same sound but with different pitch! I've always associated delamination as being a more of a 'crunching' sound where this is more of a 'donk', 'DONK', as you rock from one foot to the other!!

Thanks for any tips.

Gary.

The main symptom of delamination is movement - the top layer of ply is unsupported by the foam underneath so drops down as you stand on it.

RogerL,

I'm more used to honeycomb type structures (I'm an aircraft engineer) and they will, if delaminated, 'scrunch' when weight or compression is applied. What are van floors made of?

As my van is 4, nearly 5 y/o, would Bailey be interested??

Thanks, Gary.

Basically a ply - polystyrene foam - ply sandwich.

It could be that you have a delamination problem, or it could be that the mounting bolts attaching that area of the caravan to the chassis are loose...

main reason for your noise is either the centre axle bolt is loose, or the braking bar which runs through a mounting bracket to the cables is sticking in the mounting bracket. with the BOING noise it is not a delamination of the floor.

Check the right angle brackets which (probably) connect the sides of your bed boxes etc. to the floor. if the retaining screws work loose, you can often get strange noises as you walk across the floor, but it may be due to the bottom of the furniture moving. Try tightening the screws or adding KD blocks inside the bed boxes.

I had this problem with a van some years ago and was greatly relieved to find it was not a delamination problem.
