Dear all

Has anyone tried to register an Alko Secure Wheellock recently? If so how long did it take Alko to send the adapter to allow you to fit it?

We bought ours the same day we picked up our first caravan and registered it on the Alko website last Sunday, 2nd August. Alko say they will post the adapter out the next working day, but a week later we've heard nothing.

Bit annoying having an expensive paperweight on the desk when it should be protecting our new pride and joy.

John and Nicola

PS posting soon on the New Members forum.

I apologise but I cannot answer your question on the length of time the adaptor takes. I was considering buying an Alko wheel lock until I read some of the feedback from people who write on this forum. The problems they have experienced trying to get the wheel lock removed. Some people have failed and had to resort to contacting a specialist to remove it. I realise they are a very expensive piece of kit and they do work as even the owner with the key cannot remove them.

Hope I am proved wrong. best of luck.

We have not had any problems with ours.

used in conjuction with the mover to align the receiver its easy. I do now keep the break on in case the van moves a fraction. keeping the lock lubricated makes the removal alot easyer as well.

Had mine for 6 months used on and off about 10 / 15 times with no problems at all.

Ours has had a hard life but still works perfectly (just coming up to three years old).

I do spray a little silicone grease into the lock every year or so.

We have had an Alko wheel lock since we had the van, 2 years ish, and find it really simple to fit and remove either by the "back a bit more, no not that much!" technique, or by the use of the mover if it is engaged. It has been on an off probably over 100 times with no probs. It is light to carry and simple to use BUT the thought of losing the keyed socket thingy frightens me, especially if abroad. I have no idea how you would get it off then, but nor has the thief presumably.

Hope I'm not tempting fate but I'm another one who has never had a problem with his alko wheel locks. Now on to my second caravan fitted with them, this one a twin axle and never had a problem removing them. A mover does help but not essential,to fit the second lock on a twin I find jacking it up the easiest method. Doesn't take any longer to fit than it took for me to fit my previous clamp - bulldog titan - and much lighter too.

Thankfully my new bailey only had the yellow plastic plug in the chassis hole & not the special grub screw as described in alko's instructions. This is to stop other lock manufacturers using alko's hole I guess. I'm another one who's never had any trouble fitting or removing the lock.

Hi John & Nicola

I know AL-KO were on a weeks shut down, they started back on Monday 10th August, this may be why you have not had the adapter sent to you as yet

Hi Martin

That probably explains it. The adapter turned up in Tuesday's mail posted on the 10th. So we will be able to sleep better once I get it fitted to secure the van, tonite hopefully :)

Thanks to all for the replies

John

Martin E is correct, both my dealer and me were trying in vain to reach AlKo last week to sort an intermittent fault on my ATC system. I left 3 messages on their answer machine and eventually sent a complaining email. Perhaps next time they take off into oblivion they might change the message on their machine!
