Dents

Some kind person has caused a 1.5in dent in the side of my van, to make matters worse its in the middle of the panel that has a ripple effect, my local dealer says I would have to replace the whole side panel. I seem to remember reading about a company last year that specialised in repairing this kind of damage by making a mould of the undamaged section and then moulding over the damaged section with filler to match. Did anyone else read this artical.

Hi Peter, It is possible to fill dents in preformed panels providing you can find someone with the skill to carry it out,

many years ago when working for my Father we used to this on a regular basis, problem is now days most body shops replace panels now, probably cheaper than filling!!

Depending on where the dint is, and provided it has not perforated the outer skin - could it be disguised with a side reflector or the like?

I have kept a couple of useful pages from the mag, the first was in Aug 2002 and was for V&G Caravans 01733 350580 they carry out GRP work, mouldings etc. The other was from Feb 2003 and was for A&I Aluminium Repairs, mobile service, 07980 743223 or 07831 551166.

Hope they might be useful to you even if they are not the ones you were thinking about.

I think the one I am looking for is A&I Aluminium repairs.

Many Thanks

Peter

hi when this happened to us,i went to the dealers and bought two orange reflectors, the ones that stick on.they are about 3 x 2 inch.providing the skin is not broken, these will cover the dent up fine.providing they will stick to a ribbed section of panel.

oh they'll stick, if the proper backing isnt good enough, remove it and use white sikaflex
