Digi Satellite Receiver

I have just bought a Labgear Satellite Kit from Screwfix and the instruction book is asking to select Transponder parameters along with Frequency and Symbol rate. I have looked on the various web sites advised, but I cannot find this info. Is it listed as something else, or can I just ignore it. Help please

Hi Toro,

I think it means you will have to go to a web site that lists the satellite channels. Do a google for Astra satellite transponder settings. If you have Sky at home, on the remote, press Services, Add Channels. On that page you will see a typical example of the settings the Labgear instructions are asking for. I'm surprised there is no automatic set-up facility?

Hope this helps you in some way?

David

I've got one of these, you don't need to muck about with the transponder etc - get it to search the Astra 28.2 satellite and it will sort itself out - I just plugged onto my SKY dish at home first to get it to do it. It works fine with my multimo portable dish. Cheap and cheerful but it gives a good picture on our 15" Hitachi TV, not tried it on the big LCD one

Thanks everyone, I will now attempt to connect the receiver with the Sky dish which is already on the wall, and I will put the Labgear dish and LNB in the van, and when we go away with the van I'll take the box and remote from the house. All this technical stuff is not good for us of the older generation!!! Tom

Don't forget that you will need something on which to mount the dish when away from home. I use a tripod from a set of works lights - without the lights. A friend fitted a second jockey mount on his frame and slides a 2" pole into it.

The dish does not need to be high up so long as it has a clear sight roughly SE.

You should also take a good optical compass and a satfinder (about a fiver when on offer at Aldi/Lidl.)

It will take you ages to set it up the first time, about half as long the second time, then about ten minutes every time after that!

"All this technical stuff is not good for us of the older generation!!!"

I would say exactly the opposite its brilliant for keeping the "grey cell" young and active.
