I have a new 2009 caravan with adjustable arial from inside the van. I also have a brand new Digital T.V.However,on site im not picking up any stations. I also bought a signal finder but it has made no difference reception is still virtualy non existant and the signal finder says no signal. It has been suggested to me to go to Maplins and buy there Satellite free sat in a box system for caravanners it costs £99.99.Im told its easy to set up is this correct? it works every time? and it will recieve about 80 channels? I will spend the money if its an easy and successfull fix? but really dont want to waste money. Can you advise please.

We had a similar problem when going away last year taking a new digital tv away with us. This had been tuned in at home and received Analogue & Digital Channels really well. On setting up when away in a different TV area I did what I thought was a re-tune and it wouldn't pick up any digital channels, just a few of the analogue ones. As we were in a remotish area, I thought it was our aerial which needed improving and so bought a new directional type made by Grade when we got home. (no TV that weekend !). A few weeks later we went away again to another area and took the new aerial to try out. Oh dearoh dear this made very little difference despite all the usual fiddling around with directions and cable connections etc.

It was only when I had a much closer look at the "on screen" menu that I decided to do a "Factory reset" and start from scratch that every one of the new area channels was picked up and we were getting perfect reception, without I hasten to add the new directional aerial. So, please try to do the same as me and see what happens. I think that basically, what I was trying to do was pick up any "new channels" but really needed to start over again. Obviously I had to do this agin when we got back home.

Gilbert:

Its too early to rush into satellite; what you have ought to work but digital TV is presently troublesome to impossible in some/many areas.

First are any others on site getting Digital? If they are not your also unlikely to get it.

If they are then have you pointed the aerial in the same direction?

Switched on the aerial?

Done a channel search with the TV's automatic scanner?

[Digital TV needs "tuning" to every transmitter, so what worked at home is unlikely to work some 50 miles from home without retuning to the local transmitter]

Your kit is new so its the various suppliers problem if your in a viable area and it does not work.

If all this fails first take the TV to a caravanner near by and plug it into his aerial, thus determining if its the set or your aerial.

Similarly ask a neighbour to try his set on your aerial.

Satellite is not always the answer as you have to be able to "see" the satellite and if a tree or large MH is blocking it then it will not work.

The Maplin one is too dear at

As an update to my post. The new T.V. worked in the house of the main house arial picking up around 20 channels. However, when I put it in the van on my drive I kept getting the no signal message I always do a full auto scan when on site often many times with no success. If indeed its the arial at fault have you any suggestions?

Gilbert,

Try a standard bit of fault finding.

You say you have a signal strenth meter. Plug that direct into the Status booster box and see if you get any signal and work from there.

I have had new vans that the TV didnt work and found that the co-axial plugs hadn't even been connected correctly.

Once sorted I find the Status aerial excellent.

Jim

Hope this helps

Gilbert we have an 08 van bought new last October, we have a free view television and have no problem receiving digital, in fact at Broadway where it is a poor area for reception ours was perfect..

Do what James has said and check the booster, we had the concealed lighting in our van flickering they said it was because we weren't on hook up, when l checked it was a loose connection so l think you may have a problem with the booster.

Good luck

Gilbert I know just what you are up against and also agree with posts above this one but I have to say I have had my satellite system from Maplins for about 3 years and not had any problems .

Now again I agree

Hi Gilbert, We also have a digital tv that works fine when connected to the house arial but will not pick up digital signals in the van when on our drive. It is because the transmitter signal is being blocked by the house, as we have the same problem if trying to use the set in the house with an indoor arial specifically marketed for digital, the picture is "blocking", breaking up or freezing all the time ! However when we are away in the van, digital works perfectly once we have first found the perfect analogue picture, we simply retune all the digital channels automatically ! takes about 5 mins.

Maybe a stupid question, but was the site you were on covered by freeview ?

happy viewing.

Les
