You can ONLY be Ex-directory by opting out via the 118 800 website.

from its homepage, Click on the Ex-directory tab and follow instructions.

You will need the phone with you because they will text a code to your phone which then needs to be typed into the web page. This is to prove that it is your phone.

I have just done mine and will be doing the same with all other phones in the household ASAP.

yes there is going to be a directory but you cannot be contacted without your permission.an operator will call you first and ask if you will accept the call and all you do is say no.simples
