Those who have been caravaning for a few years and have recently purchased a new caravan should have noticed how dirty mastic/sealent around battery box doors, toilet casette door, water inlet etc, etc, has become and how scruffy it looks. This is the result of the banning the use of asbestos in the make up. I have a job to clean mine. Anyone out there have any ideas.

I clean my van with Fenwicks caravan cleaner( BRILLIANT STUFF) and that seems to shift all the gunge ..green alga..and black from the mastic on the trim...the only thing it wont seem to restore is the colour of silicone sealants...these seem to remain stubbornly greyish when they get older....Ive replaced all the silicone based stuff on our van with .....white Seamseal cv....job sorted...I'm trying Fenwicks overwintering wax for the first time this year...we'll see how that does to make cleaning easier...the vans parked under a Birch tree and gets covered in sticky in no time ....

One of the best products we've discovered in the last few years is Dettox Mould and Mildew Spray. Available from most supermarkets, it really shifts stains and gunge from difficult to clean areas.

This stuff is amazing on shower cubicles, and just obliterates all the mess and marks from grouting. We've also used it on garden furniture with great success. Smell isn't brilliant, but it really does the business.

You MUST wash it off after it's done it's work. I don't know about caravan mastic, but you could try a small area say on a locker box and see how you go with it. Worth a try anyway.
