Discover WSM Branch - help needed please

Our 3 year old Bailey is unfortunately sat in the workshop at the above branch with the inner walls in the bathroom removed due to warranty work for damp. Security let us in, and then what appeared to be a member of the ex-management team took us to see our van. We were told that they were hoping to get some people in to finish the job early next week and would ring us when they were done. When pushed, he did admit that it might get shipped to one of the remaining Discover branches for the work to be completed!

However, on speaking to the security guy afterwards, he seemed pretty damned sure that if our van wasn't finished by Wednesday, we would be waiting a 'very very long time' to get it back. We have left the van at the site and returned home.

Hubby and I are now more than a little nervous about what will happen next. Would people here advise us to get back down there tomorrow and retrieve our van? Our obvious worry here is that the warranty work is unfinished, and although the van is possibly towable, are concerned that if we have the work completed elsewhere it will invalidate the warranty (which has 3 years left to run).

Sit tight and ring Bailey Monday morning? Or get down there and retrieve our van? Advice please!

Lesley

Hi Lesley

Please follow these steps below

1)Contact Ian Turner at Bailey Caravans ask for their permission to transfer the warranty work to either Chipping sodbury or Highbridge Carvans.

2)Ask Bailey to forward warranty reference number and paper work to chosen dealer

3)Contact Discover via Head office and request caravan completion date by Friday 5th June latest or caravan to be transported to your chosen dealer above.

4)Contact both Chipping Sodbury and Highbridge if and when they agree could they could carry out the warranty work and supply them with the warranty claims number you have been given by Bailey's. Once you have choosen which dealer and they have agreed to do the work contact Discover via their Head Office and inform them to ship their parts and your caravan to dealer of your choice no later than Friday 5th June.

5) Note you need to insure the caravan is repaired and returned or shipped to Sodbury or Highbridge by Friday 5th June latest!

Hello Lesely,

Oh dear, what a dreadful situation to be in, and I am sure there could be others with the same difficulties around the country. I sincerely hope that it is resolved with the minimum of fuss to you. Sadly I think it is likely you will incur some costs to recover your caravan.

It is often said the possession is nine tenths of the law, and I think that you should establish very quickly your ownership of rights to the caravan in whatever condition it is in.

I an not sure what your legal position is and I echo the other comments that you need to seek professional legal advice.

If you intend to remove the part-repaired caravan I suggest you need professional technical advice to ensure you retrieve all the bits of the caravan, and advice on how to transport it. If it is only part repaired it might not be wise or safe to tow. Don't forget that as the driver of an outfit you are legally responsible to ensure the vehicle is safe and in a roadworthy condition. A caravan with part of a wall missing may be deemed an unsafe load unless proper precautions have been taken.

I understand that the caravan is 3 years old, but if you are still paying for the caravan through an HP agreement, contact your HP company and tell them of the situation. As the caravan is legally theirs until the last payment is made, they have a very strong vested interest in reclaiming their property from the jaws of an administrator, and may may be able to offer some leverage to ensure the caravan is repaired and repatriated to you.

I wish you some good luck.

I think you may have to wait to get your goods back. An administrator will not let anything leave the site until they have fully established ownership.

This happened a couple years ago with a car dealer in my area. It went bump with several cars in for repair and it took ages for some to get their vehicles back even though proof of ownership could be proved. This was partly because the stripped of parts had to be identified and this proved near impossible.

Seek legal advice as soon as you can , if you have RAC or AA cover ring their Legal advice lines or check if you have Legal cover on your insurance and do the same.

Why don't Bailey or other manufacturers monitor this well known site and offer advice? Swift seem to do very well. Come on Bailey, if anybody from your company is reading this please ask them to communicate!

then contact bailey to if you can take it somewhere else

if you are waiting for dicover to tow it to another branch you will be waiting a long time, they have got enough trouble on their hands

GET IT OUT NOW and good luck

Hi everyone

Thanks for all your advice. I have just eceived a phone call from Roger at Discover. He has asked me to waylay any fears for people possibly in a similar situation. Our van has been completed and we hope to be collecting it at 8am tomorrow morning. Roger has stated that he will be on site for at least the next week, and that if people have any queries, to ring the Discover Customer Service helpline.

So hopefully good news for us! Here's hoping everyone else gets things sorted out as promptly.

Thanks again

Lesley

Hi

I hope it all gets sorted out to your satisfaction. We could have been in your position, we were waiting for Discover at Wrexham to get back to us re warranty work on our 3 year old Bailey, they never did. Our van is now booked in for servicing at Discover Cannock. They have been told about the outstanding warranty work from Discover Wrexham and that we expect it done. We've been told to take the paperwork with us.

Good luck

Annette

Hi

Thanks to other members of this forum I have today learnt that Discover at Cannock has closed. I have spoken to Discover helpline regarding booked service with Cannock and outstanding warranty work - not impressed, had to explain to the person that Bailey have time limits for servicing their vans to meet warranty requirements. Discover are apparently going to contact customers by letter. I have asked Discover helpline to e mail me a list of local dealers today so that we can re book our van in for servicing. I think its the very least they can do.

On a more positive note phoned customer services at Bailey - really helpful, have contact details of other Bailey dealers etc and told to contact them again if we have any problems. Its the second time Bailey cutomer services have been helpful to us.

if I were one of those independant well run family / local dealers out there I'd be laughing all the way to the bank now.

They are probably going to be winners from this in some respects as their 'market share' will increase.

but will it be good for the consumer?

Hi all (again)

Just to relay that the van is back home safe and sound. We even managed to have a brief chat with the guy who did the repairs, so feel well informed as to what has been done, and are happy with the look of the van post warranty-work.

So, a happy ending for me. But I guess not such good news for the Discover Group if the stats are true. :(

Just to say that I can vouch for Broad Lane Leisure, their customer service is absolutely brilliant. I don't have the pleasure of knowing Steve, but I do know his cousin Dave Brown who runs the Daventry branch. The whole team at the Daventry branch (and since it is a family concern, I would assume at the other branches too) are unfailingly helpful, friendly and knowledgeable (they have a great sense of humour, too!! LOL).

Full credit to Steve Brown at Broad Lane Leisure for a very kind constructive offer of help.

Why couldn't someone from Bailey have made such a jesture on the 31st May 2009?? We all know Swift would have done something.

For the future will Bailey Caravans please confirm that if a similar set of circumstances arise again they will arrange the transfer to another party , or the main factory , for completion of repairs at their expense?

Come on Bailey with more record sales so far this year I think it would be a good move for you to say something .

Now what if this had been a Swift,, Would Andy have replied mmmm? Well the thread would have ended on the 31st May!

Cheers

Thanks Steve.

I will certainly keep your details handy for our next service.

Just out of interest, would we be able to have the van damp-checked inbetween services? The work we had done at WSM was damp related at the rear of the van.

Thanks again

Lesley
